Fraudulent e-mails and voice calls in the name of Erste Bank or Sparkassen
This warning was first published on 29.12.2022 and updated on 05.01.2023.
Currently, there are more and more fraud attempts with fake e-mails around an "Update of the s Identity App" and subsequent fraudulent calls from alleged employees of Erste Bank or Sparkasse. In our Security Center you will find a sample of the phishing e-mail.
The pretext for the contact is usually the claim of fraudulent activity on your account and necessary "security scans" or required authorizations for a "chargeback of fraudulent transfers". However, in reality, there were no such transfers and the scammers are instead trying to trick you into actually authorizing fraudulent transfers in s Identity!
How can you protect yourself from this scam?
- In general, be skeptical when you receive links to login pages via SMS or e-mail.
- When receiving calls, never disclose your user number, account or credit card details on the phone and, if in doubt, simply end the call.
- Even if the phone number or e-mail address appears to be authentic - these e-mails or calls do not come from us!
- Never authorize transactions or activities in s Identity that you have not started yourself. During each authorization, s Identity supports you with precise information which activity currently requires your authorization. Always be sure to carefully check this information before your authorization.
Good to know:
- We don't ask you for confidential customer information over the phone or by email. If we actually contact you regarding your account or cards (including in possible fraud cases), our employees will know this information anyway.
- In our Security Center you will always find current warnings, samples of phishing e-mails and general security tips that you can use to protect yourself against Internet fraud.
Did you already disclose (confidential) information on such a phone call? Do you have questions? In these cases, please contact our 24h Service at: 05 0100 – 50200. We are always there for you.
