EBICS Changeover
- Multibanking enables the management of all bank accounts at different Austrian banks via a single electronic banking application.
- From October 7, 2024, companies throughout Austria will be able to switch from MBS (Multi Bank Standard) to EBICS (Electronic Banking Internet Communication Standard).
- The previous national standard MBS is expected to be supported in parallel until November 2025 and will then be completely replaced by EBICS.
EBICS is the new multi-bank capable communication standard for electronic data exchange, which enables in particular the processing of payment orders and the exchange of account information between corporate customers and banks.
EBICS introduces an internationally uniform standard throughout the Austrian banking sector, which increases security and reliability in payment transactions.
Your benefits:
- International multi-bank capability: long-term integration of accounts outside Austria also possible*
- Integrated: Payment transactions can be processed directly from financial accounting software.
- Central approval: In George Business: one approval process (e.g. using s Identity) for payment orders from all integrated banks.
- Optimized for ISO 20022: Support for structured address data, which is becoming increasingly important in international payment transactions to ensure smooth payment processing
* From 07.10.2024, only Austrian third-party bank accounts can be integrated into George Business. In the future, it is also planned to add the integration of (e.g. German accounts) via EBICS.

Important information about the change
Do you use an MBS-enabled electronic banking application at another Austrian bank (e.g. ELBA, BusinessLine) or non-bank software and have accounts from Erste Bank and the savings banks integrated into it?
- Erste Bank and Sparkassen will support EBICS (for cross-bank access to your accounts) in addition to MBS from 07.10.2024.
- From this date, you can technically switch your accounts at Erste Bank and Sparkassen to the EBICS protocol.
- Your licensing bank, from which you obtain your current MBS-enabled electronic banking application (e.g. ELBA), will actively inform you about the time and the necessary steps for switching from MBS to EBICS. For example, it may be necessary to switch to a new electronic banking application that supports EBICS.
Do you use an MBS-enabled electronic banking application from Erste Bank and Sparkassen (George Business or telebanking MBS) and have accounts from other banks linked to it?
- EBICS will soon be supported in George Business and you will be able to switch from MBS to EBICS for your third-party bank accounts at George Business. We will inform you in good time about the changeover to EBICS and all the necessary steps.
- To benefit from the advantages of EBICS, it is necessary to switch to George Business. Telebanking MBS does not support this standard.
Important:
If you are supported in payment transactions by a tax advisor (e.g. when recording salary payments), it is advisable to consult with your tax advisor before converting to EBICS in order to rule out problems in payment processing during the MBS-EBICS conversion as far as possible.
Questions and answers about EBICS
