Sparkasse Bank Makedonija and Ohridska Banka merged into one Bank

On the 16th of July 2021, with registration of the status change – accession, the process of Ohridska Banka AD Skopje accession to Sparkasse Banka Makedonija AD Skopje was completed.

As a result, Sparkasse Banka Makedonija AD Skopje, entered the group of large banks, taking the second largest financial services provider in the commercial segment and the third largest in the retail segment. Sparkasse Bank in North Macedonia now serves a total of 140,000 customers in over 35 branches with around 700 employees. With a market share of around 14% and total assets of 1.15 billion Euro.

Great potential in the Western Balkans

The network of subsidiaries and participations of Erste Group, Steiermärkische Sparkasse and Kärntner Sparkasse spans from Slovenia and Croatia through Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia to Montenegro and Northern Macedonia. Together with Erste Group, the focus continues to be on the Western Balkan countries with the clear goal of further expanding the commitment to the extended home market in the coming years. “We take on the role of an investor to signal the population that we see great potential in their countries and will make our contribution accordingly. As a long-standing partner, we are also doing our best to push ahead with the long-awaited EU accession and finally secure a European perspective for North Macedonia,” Bucher said.
