Steiermärkische Bank und Sparkassen AG was established as a savings association in 1825, 200 years ago. Steiermärkische Sparkasse is therefore the oldest financial institution in Styria and has an eventful history. Today, Steiermärkische Sparkasse is not only the oldest but also the largest financial institution in the state with total assets of EUR 22.5 billion. 2,917 employees work at 234 locations in Austria and the Western Balkans. 1 million customers currently make use of Steiermärkische Sparkasse’s services.
That Steiermärkische Sparkasse has made it through the last two centuries so successfully is thanks not least to the founding principle that it puts into practice every day: it always focuses on people. From the very start of the savings bank’s history, there have been two crucial factors for a strong, reliable relationship with customers, which are still extremely relevant today, namely a regional focus and taking utmost care with customers’ deposits. Founding principle knows no borders
This common thread is also woven into the neighbouring countries in Southeast Europe. As well as its engagement throughout Styria, Steiermärkische Sparkasse also has a successful presence in six countries of the Western Balkans. Employees are putting Steiermärkische Sparkasse’s founding principle into practice in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia and focusing on customers in the countries of the extended domestic market. We also bring people from different countries together in the commercial sector. For years, our international business experts in Graz have been building bridges between Styrian companies and companies in the Western Balkans.
