Fake notifications from parcel service providers
Currently, phishing SMS and e-mails are circulating claiming that your parcel could not be delivered due to an incomplete address or that a (customs) fee must be paid. The message contains a phishing link which leads to fake websites in the style of Post, DHL or UPS. On these fraudulent pages, which can often be recognised by their unusual URLs, you are asked to enter card details so that the outstanding amount can be paid.
In fact, the fraudsters try to use the card data obtained in this way to make purchases on the internet or to activate your card for Apple Pay or Google Pay. In reality, no customs or parcel fees are paid but (if the transaction is authorised carelessly) the criminals are allowed to make payments with your card.
Tips for your safety
- Never pass on any codes that are sent to your mobile phone during this process.
- Even if you are expecting a parcel: Stay cautious and do not click on the links. No parcel service provider would send a link to ask for your card details!
- Do not trust the display (e.g. of an amount) on an unknown website - this can be manipulated very easily!
- The s Identity app always shows exactly what transaction and what amount you are currently authorising!
- In general, be extremely cautious when passing on bank and/or card data.
