dachbodenHistory

In 1849 the then Allgemeine Sparcasse und Leihanstalt in Linz was founded by a group of wealthy citizens and members of the aristocracy, who donated a considerable sum of money. The bank acted more or less as a non-profit-organisation for the benefit of the local society.

In 1892 today's headquarters in the city center, at Promenade 11-13, was built.
Nearly 100 years later, in 1990, the banking operations were brought into a newly formed joint stock company under the name ALLGEMEINE SPARKASSE OBERÖSTERREICH BANK AG (since 1999 additionally marketing-name: Sparkasse Oberösterreich).

Since 1991 SPARKASSE OBERÖSTERREICH has taken over 11 Savings Banks in Upper Austria so far, thereby enlarging its market place considerably. Further in 1999 all the branches of Erste Bank AG in Upper Austria were merged with SPARKASSE OBERÖSTERREICH. Today SPARKASSE OBERÖSTERREICH maintains 142 branches in Upper Austria.
